15 Match Star Ratings For AEW All Out 2022

3. Chris Jericho Vs. Bryan Danielson

Jon Moxley CM Punk
AEW

This was weird in a way that, using the flawed metric that is live reactions on Twitter, everybody struggled to articulate.

The live crowd struggled to really click with it too, despite a smattering of very cool ideas. Again, it's weird. The story was simple enough to follow: Chris Jericho was insistent on simply wrestling, realised late in the game that he was inferior, and ultimately gave in to his dark carny heart with a low-blow. And yet, this suffered from a lack of cohesion somehow.

One such cool idea saw Danielson brush off a series of thudding Jericho chops as if one drop of perspiration had appeared on his chest. Jericho's Liontamer reversal from a top-rope Frankensteiner is always impressive. Danielson finding new ways to lock in the LeBell was another thread that just...missed.

So what was wrong with an otherwise good effort? Was the pacing too methodical deep into a long night? Were the submission transitions at times so sloppy that they were all but telegraphed? Did it feel more attritional in a real sense as opposed to fictional?

Sometimes, matches simply don't click. This just happened to be one of them, despite a few cracking individual moments.

Star Rating: ★★★¼
