3. ‘Taker Threatens Sable

Reportedly, Sable's ego was running wild by the time she departed the WWF in mid-1999. There's no denying that Marc Mero's former valet had become one of the biggest standalone stars in the industry (she'd been outshining her husband since the start), but she was also rubbing some people the wrong way behind the curtain. Despite that, the fed knew she had to be featured heavily onscreen.

Some may have forgotten all about her involvement in the feud between Undertaker and Vince McMahon in early-'99. On the 29 March 1999 Raw, Sable and Jacqueline worked a short tag match vs. Tori and Ivory, then 'Taker encouraged Sable to dance for him before grabbing her by the throat. This was done to goad Vince into stopping it.

The whole thing made for a bizarre storyline, to be honest. It's a trip to revisit knowing what'd happen legally between Sable and the company, then what occurred once she returned to the fold in 2003. McMahon and Sable would eventually become an onscreen couple again when she returned that year, but it was kinda already happening back in 1999 before she left the promotion.

Sort of.

Vince and Sable weren't outright dubbed a power couple, but McMahon was protective over her and his daughter Stephanie in the face of 'Taker's tyranny. It was a shocking moment when Undertaker grabbed Sable by the throat and threatened her, but so much shock value was on tap during the 'Attitude Era' overall. So, there wasn't a ton of fallout about this spot. Certainly not as much as you might think.
