15 MORE Incredible WWE Attitude Era Moments Nobody Ever Talks About

2. Marc Mero Hoodwinks Sable

Being fair, Sable had a job outshining Marc Mero at Over The Edge 1998. Together, the couple worked one of the best segments-come-matches on the show. Marc cut the promo of his life about how much he loved Sable and wanted them to be happy again. Turning on the charm, he blamed the wrestling business for coming between them.

Then, just as Sable started to lower her guard, Mero offered to lay down and let her pin him to win freedom and do her own thing. It was all a ruse. Marc grabbed his wife quickly, pinned her and laughed about it. What an epic performance from someone who was struggling to carve his own way in the midcard back then.

Mero's promo never gets enough attention. It really was excellent.

Being honest, this should've shown the WWF that Marc did have something about him beyond playing WCW's Johnny B. Badd character. When the story was compelling enough and he had good material, Mero could deliver on the mic. Who knew?! He didn't need to be a 'Wildman' who talked about "cat scratch fever" all the time.

To her credit, Sable showed more realistic human emotion in this one segment/match than she had around ringside for approx 2 years. She went from hating Mero's dominion over her, to seeing her husband shine through, to hating him all over again. It was an extremely effective piece of business.

Why this didn't lead to something more for Marc is anyone's guess. Perhaps his face just didn't fit anymore.
