The above pic isn't from Royal Rumble 1998, but it was too good to leave out. It's also painstakingly difficult to find a pic from the Rumble's 6-man tag that isn't just special guest referee Sunny cradling lil' Max Mini like the son she never had. Those tend to be on the pixellated side too, so you get a hyped up Jerry Lawler instead.

Back to the matter at hand.

The '98 Rumble saw Max team up with Nova and Mosaic to topple El Torito, Tarantula and Battalion. As aforementioned, Sunny was the special referee and put her all into the gig. All in all, this turned out to be a really fun exhibition, but it’s often forgotten because the “minis” vanished from TV shortly thereafter in preparation for the Super Astros show to come.

When that failed to take off as people had hoped, it was curtains for the "minis" division. WWE tried to reinvent it in 2006 by bringing the so-called "Junior's Division" to screens, but that was a failed experiment and a thinly veiled excuse to turn the woeful Palmer Cannon into something/anything on programming.

Truthfully, Max Mini was the only worker in the division that fans seemed to give much of a toss about. His style was endearing, his arm drags had more whip to them that some wrestlers 3x his size, and Max appeared to have real potential. It's a pity that the Rumble would wind up being one last hurrah for he and his buddies.

He kept Lawler happy for a while, if nothing else.
