Shock...but no horror! Nah, don't run. Sure, the exclusive UK-only PPVs were generally crap and aren't looked upon fondly hindsight or not, but Rebellion 1999 was a solid enough show with a cracking main event totally in-keeping with what was going on at the time. Imagine the excitement fans had to be feeling flocking to the arena for Triple H vs. The Rock in a steel cage main event.

That was big time. American pay-per-view big time.

It wound up being the best headliner of the UK 'Attitude Era'. Even Vinnie Jones flashing a red card about the place as announcers made poorly-informed comments about "soccer" from Capital Carnage in 1998 couldn't top it. Being fair, Steve Austin vs. Rock from Rebellion 2001 runs it pretty darn close.

Rebellion 1999 gets the award this time, and deservedly so. The atmosphere was electric, Hunter and Rocky refused to phone it in (some acts did on these glorified house shows with cameras), and there was a realistic threat of the latter winning that coveted WWF Championship in front of a raucous, wrestle-hungry British crowd.

Ah, to revisit this timeframe and drink it all in again. UK fans had been fed scraps for a few years as the fed struggled to recapture SummerSlam 1992's might, but Trips vs. Rock was akin to a peace offering/apology following Mayhem In Manchester and others.

Due to its status as a UK exclusive, you won't find many tripping over themselves to gush with praise for the match or the night as a whole. More's the pity.
