15 Most Notorious WWE Wrestlemania Urban Legends

2. Roddy Piper Was Made To Tape His Fists Up So Mr. T Didn't Get Hurt At WMII

wikipediawikipediaLet's make one thing clear in this instance. Whilst a lot of these urban legends are based around rumours and speculation, the plain fact was Mr. T and Roddy Piper didn't get on. The bad blood between the two had rumbled on to such an extent that they had a singles match at the second edition of WrestleMania - but it wasn't a wrestling match. It was a boxing match. Piper took it incredibly seriously. He went off and trained away from the WWE, working with legendary boxing trainer and manager Lou Duva (who would be at ringside for the match). Clearly he wanted to make this as convincing as possible, but again, Mr. T was a worried man. He was genuinely afraid of getting hurt (which is understandable, given how he was in a boxing match), and Piper was made to go to extreme circumstances to protect Mr. T. Piper alleges that he was made to tape up his firsts so that he wouldn't inflict much damage on the A-Team star, but it actually caused him to fall embarrassingly during the match. If you watch it back, you'll see a segment where Piper crashes awkwardly through the ropes. At that point, he was supposed to clutch onto the ropes - but given how he'd been made to tape up, he couldn't get a grip. Given how much supposed hatred there was between the two men, you get the feeling Piper would have been pretty annoyed by that.
