15 Most Surprising WWE WrestleMania Match Finishes
12. Shane McMahon Pins X-Pac After Triple H Turns Heel (WrestleMania 15)
In the Attitude Era, any finish suddenly became plausible with the relaxation of logic. It became harder to 'shock' fans, even on a night where The Undertaker hanged the Big Bossman, an occurrence which stunned Michael Cole for all of six seconds before he calmly segued to the main event. Prior to that, there was a heel turn that decimated the era's most relevant stable. X-Pac's attempt to regain his European title from Shane McMahon (who had yet to truly impress as an unbridled stuntman performer) fell short, when Triple H Pedigreed him, effectively dissolving D-Generation X by joining the McMahon Corporation. Fans expecting Shane to get beaten for their satisfaction were shocked enough by Shane winning (see Danny Davis), but the turn of Helmsley added profound emphasis in a time where few moments had lasting power.
