11. Earl Hebner Explodes At Triple H (2002)

The best match from SummerSlam 2002 was easily the Unsanctioned Street Fight between Triple H and Shawn Michaels...unsanctioned enough that referee Earl Hebner was assigned to officiate the non-match, anyway.

Trips gave HBK a solid beating and placed him in a brutal abdominal stretch, using the rope to gain added leverage. This caused Hebner to interfere and break the hold, shoving Triple H a few times to stop the move. Trips then responds by shoving Hebner, who bounces off the ropes and shoves Trips back, earning the biggest pop of his entire career as a result.

It doesn't end there, though: Earl goes on a fiery tirade against Trips, walking towards him with bulging eyes and a pulsating neck, to the point that he actually manages to back Trips into the turnbuckle. Trips then backs away from him looking thoroughly stunned that a referee actually stood up for himself for once.

Given how WWE referees are usually made to look like pathetic glass-jaws, this was an absolute delight to watch, if also totally weird and unexpected, given how easily Trips could've murdered him if he wanted to.
