10. Owen Hart Gives Stone Cold A Stinger (1997)

One of the most cringe-inducing moments in SummerSlam history took place during 1997's WWF Intercontinental Title match between champion Owen Hart and Stone Cold Steve Austin. The match was brought to an abrupt end after Hart botched a piledriver on Austin, giving him temporary paralysis at the time and persistent neck issues for the remaining few years in his active career.

As Austin was booked to win the title, this leads to an incredibly awkward ending, where Hart kills time for a minute while Austin crawls up behind him and barely pulls off the most mild roll-up pin in pro-wrestling history.

To Austin's credit, he carried on like a trooper where others would've quit, and while it led to a solid match having a pretty terrible ending, it's undeniably one of the most memorable and shocking SummerSlam moments, especially considering how much the WWF milked it in the months that followed.
