15 New Directions For WWE After WrestleMania 42
6. Oba Femi = New Brock Lesnar
Walking man mountain Oba Femi is WWE’s new physical marvel with the power, intimidation factor and aura to make it work. On Sunday, Paul Heyman’s facial expressions added to the match, and Brock Lesnar put Oba over huge. Post-match, Michael Cole even referred to the winner by saying: “Oba Femi is the next big thing”.
Make no mistake, they did strap a rocket to the dude before and during 'Mania. Good. That's what this should've been, and Brock is over/established/credible enough to eat the loss and move on. Sunday's match was all about telling the world that hey, Oba is the second coming of 'The Beast Incarnate'.
Credit to Lesnar for passing the torch properly without protest. He bent over backwards to make Femi look like a million bucks on episodes of Raw before WrestleMania 42, then redoubled his efforts in Las Vegas during one of the most hard hitting 5 minutes matches you're ever likely to see.
It conjured up memories of Brock vs. Goldberg from 'Mania 33, and that's meant as a compliment.
There's no need to sit on Oba's momentum either. He's 27 years old, has all the tools and just proved he has the presence to match even WWE's biggest names on the grandest stage. He's a generational athlete, and should go on to become a sustainable main-eventer who shifts tickets (hopefully cheaper ones!) by the truckload.
It shouldn't be too long until Femi is wearing WWE or World Heavyweight gold around his waist as fans chant his first name on repeat. It's Oba's time now.
