15 Things We Learned From Dark Side Of The Ring: Vader

1. Jesse & Debra’s Death Story Is Heartbreaking

The final five minutes of this week's 'Dark Side' is a depressing watch.

Leon suffered numerous serious health issues towards the end of his life, and that made it more difficult for him to function day to day or even take care of himself. His son, Jesse stepped up and took care of his dad. He was literally feeding his father at one point. One day, Jesse walked into the room and Leon told him, “I love you”. That was the first time Jesse had heard his dad speak in over a month.

He went to work and received a phone call. It was Leon telling him he appreciated everything his son had done for him. Jesse said he’d see his dad in a couple of hours, but that was the last time he spoke with him. Debra says she and White had an agreement that if things got so bad one of them had to pull the plug, they would. She naturally found that extremely difficult to do.

All of this is heartbreaking.

Before passing from a mix of heart complications and pneumonia, Leon poured his heart out to Debra right at the end and said he felt “very bad about how our life could’ve been and how it ended up”. She says that's when he turned back into Leon White instead of trying to be Vader. There's something poignant about it, but it's also very upsetting that he realised this far too late.

This week's episode wasn't as bleak as others overall, but the last stretch will tug at your heart strings. God bless Jesse for taking care of his dad as best he could.
