15 Things You Didn't Know About WrestleMania (1995 - 2004)

9. WrestleMania XV - Shawn Michaels Politicked To Change The Main Event

Mick Foley finally reached his goal of wrestling in the main event of WrestleMania in 2000 when he was part of a Fatal 4-Way along with Triple H, The Rock and Big Show. It was the year before, however, in which his presence in the main event would've made more sense and could've had a far bigger impact. The Rock versus Stone Cold Steve Austin headlined WrestleMania XV in Philadelphia's First Union Center but Mankind was originally written into the mix. Foley had been trading wins, as well as the World Wrestling Federation Championship, with The Rock since November 1998 and Vince Russo actually received Vince McMahon's approval to book a Triple Threat Match for WrestleMania XV's main event. Unfortunately for Foley, Shawn Michaels successfully convinced Steve Austin, who in turn convinced Vince McMahon, that the closing match of the biggest show of the year needed to be a traditional one-on-one contest. The rest, as they say, is history and Foley would have to wait one more year to be featured in the final match of WrestleMania. (Mrs. Foley's baby boy did appear in the 'Mania XV main event as a referee). Foley had actually retired the month before it finally came making his involvement feel forced at best.
