15 Times WCW Was Better Than Literally EVERYTHING

1. Goldberg Wins World Title Undefeated

Do yourself a favour: Go back and watch the Goldberg vs. Hogan match from WCW's 6 July 1998 episode of Nitro. It's available on WWE's WCW flavoured YouTube channel in full for your viewing pleasure. Go ahead, we'll wait. It really doesn't matter if you typically enjoy Goldberg's style or not. Enjoy? Right, time to analyse.

That match was everything right about WCW in its prime.

Goldberg went into the match undefeated since debuting on TV in September 1997, and then he pinned the head of the nWo snake to the mat and became brand new World Champion. It was sensational. The live crowd inside a busy Georgia Dome went absolutely banana for the closing stretch in particular, but they'd been frisky for the bout from the off.

Still, that spear into Jackhammer sequence Bill worked on Hogan remains one of the finest finishes in wrestling history. It was so well-executed, and the atmosphere was so thick one Gorilla Monsoon would've needed all of those knives he spoke about on comms to cut through it. He'd need a full drawer of the sharp, slicing things!

Watching Nitro would've been a real treat for regulars around this time, but imagine being somebody new who was being introduced to the show by a buddy?! WCW came across as the hip and happening product, not the WWF, and this was during an era when Steve Austin was running amok on Raw.

WCW put Goldberg vs. Hogan in the ring on free TV to pop a rating, and it worked. People will talk about this title change forever.
