It's not just the talent who have their Twitter battles, as Jim Ross and Josh Mathews proved back in January when their assessments of UFC's Fight Night competing with the NFL playoff saw them clash. Ross claimed UFC had "won" over NFL, suggesting the experiment by UFC to go head to head had actually paid off, but Mathews took exception to the comment, passive aggressively tweeting that anyone saying that should "please stop. It's no a fair fight. If you're over 60, just go away." Clearly JR's attention was drawn to the response (despite the lack of a mention) as the announcer firmly responded that he wasn't going away and then offered his own sub-tweet that Mathews was ignorant. Though he initially stuck by his comments as simply speaking his mind, Mathews deleted the offending tweet. The Excuse/Apology https://twitter.com/realjoshmathews/status/557342616010760192 The age-old "out of character" defence, which stands up somewhat more legitimately if you haven't spent a good time defending your right to speak your mind. So basically, Mathews meant what he said, he was probably just told that the manner of the tweet wasn't the best idea.
