4. Company Goes Bust
There's been occasions when not just a championship goes under, but the entire company and it's championships do. Along with that goes the heritage and legacy of the titles, which come to an immediate end, and are then consigned to the record books. The demise of ECW is perhaps the most notable in terms of not only champions losing their title, but the championships disappearing altogether. While WCW suffered the same fate as ECW, their titles were recognised and unified with WWE's equivalents. For ECW, their titles - the ECW title, the Tag Team & Television titles became nothing more than wrestling history. When WWE began its ECW brand, it revived the ECW title, but for diehard fans it wasn't the same. While at the time each champion would have preferred their company and championship to have continued, there's a degree of romanticism about being the final holder of a title. As there can be only one first ever champion, there can be only one last ever champion too.
