15 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Dynamite (Oct 23)

3. Hell Bent For Piledrivers

Lucha Brothers
AEW

Private Party vs. the Lucha Brothers was pure cocaine.

Viewers knew what to expect when the Dynamite cut to the competitors without even running through the usual video opener. Justin Roberts did his thing and the performers didn't let up from the first bell, with Mark Quen and Rey Fenix setting a ridiculous pace immediately. They weren't messing around, working an indie-style sprint of counters, flips, dives, and slick, coordinated sequences, popping the crowd huge throughout, creating what must've been one of the year's most captivating in-arena atmospheres.

This was a complete sugar rush that even those averse to this style of wrestling must confess worked for the audience, and all four performers were on fire. Fenix was the standout, though. His rope work is particularly impressive thanks to his world-class balance and agility and his reverse double stomp to the crouched Quen was so nasty, it may as well have come from Penta. Kudos.

A couple of sloppy moments aside, this was an awesome example of an explosive style of wrestling.
