15 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Dynamite (Oct 23)

10. Making Orange Cassidy Work

Orange Cassidy
AEW

The complaints regarding Orange Cassidy's comedic style in AEW's "real sport" environment aren't unwarranted. A tiny little guy with hands in his pocket slow-motion kicking a bigger, harder wrestler shouldn't be sold like death if we're to receive this product as anything close to realistic and as over as he is, Cassidy's presence puts AEW in a quandary.

Dynamite showed how to use 'Freshly Squeezed' in a way that doesn't compromise the "sport."

Cassidy was in the ring before Best Friends' clash with The Young Bucks, hitting Matt and Nick Jackson with his trademark anti-kicks. The Bucks weren't hurt, but perplexed, and responded by kicking Orange's head off. Later, Cassidy only interjected in the match to provide a distraction and nail one of his great-looking hands-in-pockets dives, which certainly isn't too stupid to exist on Dynamite.

There'll come a time when AEW have to book Cassidy in a big comedy match. How the handle that will be interesting, though OC's Beyond Wrestling clashes with David Starr and Kylie Rae suggest it can work. Let's see how the promotion chooses to integrate them.
