Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair had a fantastic WrestleMania 37 (night one) main event, capping off the first event with fans in more than a year in grand style. ESPN tapped the SmackDown Women’s Championship match with an award, so it got some mainstream accolades.

But everything between the Belair’s signature Royal Rumble win and Mania title victory was a mess.

Rather than build a rivalry for two months, WWE chose to have Banks and Belair build a team, challenging for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. You know, because WrestleMania opponents always form teams and fight for a different title leading into the biggest show of the year.

It could have worked, but it was forced, and it all led to Sasha turning on Bianca after tweaking her for being a rookie. This fed into their Mania match, but the entire thing was just poorly executed, and it diminished what should have been an all-time coronation for the EST of WWE.
