Angélico was one of the breakout stars of Lucha Underground's first season, adapting extremely well to the lucha libre style of his opponents despite himself being a lanky South African in a motocross getup. That's partially because Angélico came to Lucha Undergound via Mexico's AAA promotion, but also because he was trained by one of the greatest trans-Pacific stars of the 1990s.

In 2009, Angélico ventured to Japan, where he studied under the puroresu/lucha libre hybrid legend, Último Dragón. He proved an apt pupil, teaming with Último Dragón to win the 2012 Yamaha Cup. And although the two men's body shapes and size may be very different, both rely on powerful kicks for offense, and both have used their international experience to excel in lucha libre.
