16 Reasons 2014 Was A Terrible Year For WWE

9. Strange Guest Stars

The success of a guest star on RAW is often dependent on what they actually do in a match. Hugh Jackman helping Zack Ryder years ago was an example of using a guest star the right way. The last 4 instances of guest stars were all examples of improper guest star use. First, there was Jerry Springer, who was used to further the rivalry between Brie and Nicki Bella. The €˜Springer€™ segment was strange, overly-long, and otherwise unnecessary, but at least fans got to see Stephanie McMahon yelling and€on second thought, it was nothing new. The next three were by comparison far worse. Much has been said on the abysmal segment involving Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb, so this article will keep is succinct: it was terrible. But at least they tried, right? The next guest star was the prime example of why wrestling fans sometimes get embarrassed for being wrestling fans: Grumpy Cat hosted RAW. That is not a typo; the guest star on RAW, which was featured in at least three terrible segments, was a cat with feline dwarfism, known for being an internet meme. It was as unnecessary as it was stupid. It still remains a mystery as to what Miz and Mizdow did to deserve being in those segments. Finally, Larry the Cable Guy was the most recent guest star, who dressed up like a wrestler (without a shirt), and mocked Santino Marella getting mustard sprayed in his face by Kane. This was clearly an attempt to promote Jingle All the Way 2, a straight-to-DVD film starring both men. WWE clearly don€™t know how to use guest stars effectively without making their segments borderline cringe-worthy. If anything, they should try and avoid using guest stars as much as possible, and should be focusing instead on their current roster. The WWE Universe doesn€™t need to see Grumpy Cat in a segment with the Miz and Damian Mizdow; they need to see good wrestling matches and actually funny comedy segments.
