16 WWE Superstars Who Did Not Belong At WrestleMania
15. Red Rooster
The Red Rooster was a flawed character from the start. Former WWE employee Bruce Prichard has gone on the record, emphatically stating that it was not in any way a rib on the talented Terry Taylor. Instead, it was the result of Vince McMahon's perception of Taylor's arrogance, as he told Ric Flair on the WOOOOO! Nation podcast.
Red Rooster, how that gimmick came about, Vince met Terry Taylor, thought he was cocky and arrogant, reminded him of a rooster. Thats the honest to Gods truth. I know Terry and everybody thought that it was a rib, it was not a rib! No, it was McMahon saw Taylor as this cocky rooster, this cock of the walk, and wanted him to be The Red Rooster.
Needless to say, Taylor never made the gimmick his own. Instead, he went through the motions, likely recognizing it for its sheer stupidity. By the time WrestleMania V rolled around, he had switched from heel to babyface and was embroiled in a feud with manager Bobby Heenan and newcomer The Brooklyn Brawler. `That match was one of 16 on the card, far too many for any event. That it lasted under one minute and did nothing of note to advance the story only serves to remind the audience that Rooster, one of the notoriously bad gimmicks in wrestling history, really had no place near WWE's premiere spectacular.
