17 Things We Learned From An Evening With Rey Mysterio (Oct 26)
14. He Thinks John Cena Is "Repetitive"
Last night's talk turned, as all wrestling conversation inevitably does, to John Cena and even in the relatively positive environment of the Q&A, the room was divided in opinion. Rey polled the crowd, "who likes John Cena?" Lots of children (and me, I'll admit it) put up hands, and most of the adults tended to vote the other way. Well, turns out that even Rey Mysterio, who famously doesn't have abad word to say about anyone in the industry, had a few criticisms of Big Match John. Rey Rey acknowledged that Cena is a great guy, who's done great things for the industry, but has a habit of being "repetitive", and pulling out the same match structure over and over again. He cited it as a difference of styles and approach; Rey prefers spontaneity and surprises, Cena tends to favour what's proven to work, leading fans to feel like they've "seen too much John." Although Cena has been expanding his arsenal of moves in recent months, it's hard to argue with that.
