Nominees: Chris Jericho joins forces with Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose at Night of Champions. The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley) return to WWE on Raw. (August 24th) Sting returns, as Seth Rollins' statue, and attacks Rollins on Raw. (August 24th) Alberto Del Rio and Zeb Colter return to WWE at Hell in a Cell. Demon Kane returns to prevent Sheamus from cashing in his Money in the Bank at Night of Champions.
Most of these aren't even surprises, given that Kane and Sting (and Jericho to an extent) were under deals that would always see them come back. The Dudley Boyz were a pleasant surprise, but the biggest shock return of the year should go to Alberto Del Rio. Jaws dropped when he turned up as John Cena's mystery opponent at Hell In A Cell. The shock only got bigger, as he defeated Cena clean for the US Title. At the time, Del Rio was AAA Champion and rumoured for Lucha Underground. He had previously criticised WWE, only to return when the company made him a sound financial offer. Winner: Alberto Del Rio
