18 Most Underrated Storylines In WrestleMania History

4. Rey Mysterio Vs. Cody Rhodes - WrestleMania XXVII

"Dashing" Cody Rhodes had a habit of staring at himself in the mirror, his vanity being the heart of his gimmick. When Rey Mysterio swung through the ropes and delivered 619, he broke Rhodes' nose and led to a psychotic break in the mind of the second-generation star, altering his gimmick to something far, far different. Rhodes, sporting a protective face mask, repeatedly called himself repulsive, horrifying and ugly. He was ashamed of the hideous creature he had become and vowed to drag Mysterio to the depths of despair that he was experiencing. It was in some ways a complex psychological story, but it made complete sense. Rhodes was utterly convincing in his role. From striking the right chord as a superstar so convinced that he was disfigured, to the placement of brown paper bags on his opponents and fans' heads, he was showing what he was really capable of for the first time in his career. There was no Legacy or tag team partner to lean on. He had succeeded without a safety net. Rhodes defeated Mysterio in his biggest singles victory to that point at WrestleMania XXVII.
