18 Things We Learned From Enzo & Big Cass On The Steve Austin Show
7. How Important Is Character Development?
Austin says the first time he'd really had a chance to see them work was their tag match against Dash and Dawson at Roadblock, and really puts over how strong their characters are. He calls them more than just a guy with gimmick hair and a tall drink of water and says he was instantly able to relate to them. He wants to know how important they think that aspect is.
Enzo compares it to what Steve was saying earlier about Bret Hart and says that when he debuted at NXT, he viewed it as his first, last and only chance to succeed and it was everything he'd ever wanted in his entire life. "In my mind you're not taking food off my family's plate and I'm about to get this money".
He says when he cut that first promo it was very real to him, and mentions that John Cena just happened to be backstage watching. Amore walked back and Cena stood up and repeated the line "Bada boom realest guy in the room" and inquired about him, which led to them doing a segment together.
Enzo recalls a time very early on when he had only had four matches under his belt and was being used as a jobber and prior to a match Dusty Rhodes told them to "put a damn microphone in his hand." Some people in the meeting were against the idea but Rhodes fought for him asking what he had to be ready for since he was being squashed?
Through multiple dark segments in the intimate setting of NXT, they began to grow more comfortable and eventually got over to an insane degree.
