19 Things We Learned From Kenny Omega On Edge & Christian's Podcast
12. Taking Over Bullet Club
Before Kenny started on his journey as 'The Cleaner', he was told some guidelines by the powers that be in New Japan as to what exactly that character was supposed to be. It turns out that they wanted it to be something along the lines of Steve Austin's Ringmaster gimmick. I know, I know. Kenny was to be cold and calculated but more importantly, always have a mouthpiece doing the talking for him even though he could speak the language.
Kenny was supposed to take over Bullet Club before he actually did. At the eleventh hour, however, AJ Styles left TNA and was appointed the new leader with Kenny acting as his junior, if you will.
Needless to say, the quiet schtick didn't last long and Kenny ascended to be the leader we know and love today.
Even if his appointment as leader was delayed, Kenny and Edge believe his journey to the pinnacle of the group was very natural. Edge compared it to somebody being Intercontinental Champion in WWE who would inevitably ascend to main event and World Championship level.
