2 Ups & 1 Down From This Week's Impact Wrestling (Nov 22)
Ups...
2. Big Match Feel
Brian Cage made the announcement last week regarding him cashing in Option C and this week, it was made official - he'll challenge Johnny Impact at Homecoming for the World Championship.
When out of context, it does seem a tad disrespectful that a title lower down the card can just hand you an automatic opportunity at the main title. It devalues the X Division Championship slightly but at the same time, it puts us all off course in our expectations. If you had said Impact's first show of 2019 would feature a Brian Cage vs. Johnny Impact main event, you would have received a laugh in the face and been told to jog on.
Now though, it's become a reality.
It's a rule that has worked time and time again in Impact since it was first introduced in 2012 for Austin Aries, and by the looks of things, it will continue to work for as long as it's utilised. In a way, it's like Money in the Bank, but with a championship instead of a briefcase. Plus, the person has to say when they're cashing in. Also, it's not contested for in a multi-man Ladder Match.
Scratch that Money in the Bank analogy...
