2 Ups & 5 Downs From AEW Rampage (April 7)
1. Still Isn’t Working
AEW has a nasty habit of presenting painfully-boring side quest stories that drag on and on forever before anything actually happens. Case in point: JAS trying to recruit The Acclaimed. This angle has made the ex-Tag Champs look rather thick since day one, and they defo came out looking like idiots on Rampage.
Why in the name of hell would they trust JAS?!
Everyone watching knew Matt Menard, Angelo Parker and Jake Hager would turn on Anthony Bowens, Max Caster and Billy Gunn post-match. It was one of the most obvious swerve moments in recent memory, but the babyfaces were ill-prepared for it. Then, the announcers (who had a poor evening) acted like it was shock of the century.
Excalibur: “JAS have been trying to recruit The Acclaimed for weeks. Were they just trying to get them to lower their guard?”. Gee, you think? Tag-teaming a nothing match with this sort of mega-obvious booking didn't do Rampage any favours.
