2 Ups & 5 Downs From AEW Rampage (June 10)

1. Story > Spots

Eddie Kingston Jake Hager
AEW

Eddie Kingston and Jake Hager came into their Rampage opener with a plan. The future Blood & Guts opponents made sure not to slow the pace to a crawl, but they were willing to take their time and tell a story instead of rushing through spot after spot.

That was appreciated, because some AEW matches can get tangled up in high spots that never settle before the next one happens. Here, the story of Kingston taking everything the bigger man had to give and still fighting from underneath to earn a strong win was solid.

It always felt like both men were trying to win the match, and that's a major plus. JR would've loved calling this one, no doubt - it was his kind of competitive struggle. Everything these guys did came across as realistic and gritty from beginning to end.

Bonus points for Eddie's middle finger show of defiance too.
