2 Ups & 7 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Jan 21)

Roman Reigns Seth Rollins The Usos Superman Punch

SmackDown kicked off with an announcement. Seth and KO said The Usos would be banned from ringside at the Rumble if they beat Roman's cousins in the main event tag. Adding fuel to the fire, Reigns then countered by saying Rollins would lose his title shot if Jimmy and Jey came out on top.

Fine? Fine. So, why in the name of hell did Reigns smash Seth with a Superman Punch in plain view of the referee and thus cost his Bloodline the chance to win? He ruined his own stipulation. WWE really should avoid making Roman look like a tool at all costs, but they booked themselves into a corner here.

The company clearly didn't want either side to eat a pin.

Maybe they can rescue this next week by way of a sneering Reigns promo. He can say he'd beat Seth whether The Usos were there or not, or something. Dunno - the whole story feels so messy, oddly-presented and rushed.

These boys have their work cut out for them in St. Louis.
