20 Absolute Best Wrestlers In The World Right Now

7. Hangman Page

In light of recent triumphs, it's time to acknowledge 'Hangman' Adam Page for what he is: not only one of the most improved wrestlers on planet earth over the past few years, but one of the sports absolute finest across the board.

AEW told a tremendous story in slowly building its Anxious Millennial Cowboy up to World Championship level. A twisting, evolving long-form narrative that gripped audiences primarily on account of its reliability, it brought Page to the dance at Full Gear 2021, where he unseated Kenny Omega as AEW's top guy.

But reaching the dance was only step one. That two-year story would have meant nothing had Page floundered in the spotlight. And, for a few fleeting weeks, it looked like he might have. Through no fault of his own, Hangman didn't quite feel as huge as he should have prior to throwing down with Bryan Danielson for the first time.

Now, his performances speak for himself. The Danielson matches were no carry-jobs. Though he was in there with one of the greatest of all time, Page held his own with impeccably-timed selling, execution, and timing. Weeks later, he entered a completely different realm in the form of a Texas Deathmatch with Lance Archer, excelling there as well, proving his versatility as a world-class, main event wrestler.

It matters little that the week-to-week booking of his World Title reign hasn't always been ideal. Page delivers when it matters, cutting believable promos and working excellent matches every time out, elevating a reign that many pegged to end within its first few weeks to the level that it should probably extend through summer now. To his credit, Hangman has proved himself as compelling a champion as he was a chaser.
