20 Absolute Best Wrestlers In The World Right Now

6. Jonathan Gresham

ROH

The best unsigned wrestler in the game, Jonathan Gresham has the world at his feet since becoming a free agent in the wake of ROH's shift away from a full-time schedule.

Gresh has made the most of this by not tethering himself to a single place. As well as operating his own promotion, TERMINUS, with AEW Dark regular Baron Black, he has defended the ROH World Championship everywhere from IMPACT Wrestling and GCW in the United States to PROGRESS in the United Kingdom. This is ahead of a planned unification match with Bandido, the other ROH World Champion, when the promotion resumes operations in April.

It's possible to make a compelling argument for Zack Sabre Jr., but currently, Gresham is the greatest technical wrestler not named Bryan Danielson working today. A wizard of a mat worker who peppers his more scientific work with bursts of athleticism, he's also a master carrier. This might be his greatest strength. Having spent much of 2021 propping ROH up between the ropes, giving lesser workers the best matches of their career, he has established a high floor and a higher ceiling. Rarely is a Gresham match anything lower than borderline great. At his best, he's incredibly compelling as the purest of pure wrestlers, as proven against Chris Sabin earlier this year.

Gresham has proved time and time again that no matter the setting and no matter the opponent, he will produce excellent work. There isn't a single promotion that wouldn't benefit from having him on its books.
