Taking place smack in the middle of the hottest period in wrestling history, as part of the most bought Summerslam in history at 700,000 pay-per-view buys, this midcard ladder match featuring two of the most promising rising stars in the company all-but stole the show.

Leading up to the show, D-Generation X and the Nation of Domination were feuding amongst each other for domination of Raw, with their leaders going one-on-one for the Intercontinental Championship at the Biggest Party of the Summer in a match that has rarely produced a stinker in it's then-short history. What resulted in a phenomenal showcase of two young talents that would one day lead the company.

Dwayne and Paul put on a psychological wrestling match first, Triple H fighting from underneath, while the Rock targeted the knee throughout the match. When ladders became involved, their use as weapons were taken with the full aggression that the Attitude Era was known for. And when the DX leader gained the advantage, interference from Nation teammate Mark Henry allowed Rocky to regain control.

The finish of the match is somewhat cheapened following a low-blow to the Rock from Chyna, which allowed Triple H enough time to win the championship, but this was two top talent in their prime, showing off a very bright future.
