Being an pioneer of a new match-type is something special but expectations are that you make the match something people want to see again. A lot of the time it works, like with Shawn Michaels & Razor Ramon's ladder match, and other times not like the Ambrose Asylum. The first Elimination Chamber, starring Triple H as the defending World Heavyweight Champion was an unmitigated success in no small part to the man holding the top prize.

Starting the match against Rob Van Dam, the Game tested the waters in the Chamber using the solid steel flooring, the "bulletproof" pods and allying with Chris Jericho to take the fight to RVD. Upon the entry of Booker T, Hunter would find himself on the receiving end of Mr. Monday Night's signature frog splash. In an unfortunate accident, Rob landed awkwardly and his knee connected with the Game's throat, legitimately crushing his larynx.

The Cerebral Assassin is a tough cookie though and, despite being in a huge amount of pain and likely not being able to breathe properly, he continued and finished the match, bumping for all the major players in the match including eventual winner, Shawn Michaels, who would pin him following Sweet Chin Music, capturing Hunter's gold. The first is always the most difficult, and the first Elimination Chamber worked gangbusters thanks to the 6 men involved, but especially Triple H.
