20 Best Wrestling Tag Team Matches Ever

11. The Midnight Express Vs. The Fantastics (NWA Clash Of Champions 1988)

Another classic from the Midnight Express, this bout took place at the first Clash of the Champions, right at the heart of Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane’s feud with the Fantastics. There was a boatload of heat between the two teams as a result, and the match kicked-off with a massive brawl all around ringside, culminating with Jim Cornette literally throwing chairs at Bobby Fulton and Tommy Rogers.

It becomes a more traditional 80’s style tag match thereafter, with Rogers taking the bulk of the heat. It can be tough to revisit matches of this ilk in the era of Tables, Ladders, and Chairs, but this 10-minute affair still stands up to scrutiny. It’s a classic good guys vs. bad guys battle, with Cornette at his absolute best as a heel manager throughout.

Corny had a say in the match outcome, too. He crawled into the ring and cracked Fulton with his tennis racket behind the referee’s back, prompting Fulton to toss the official outside. A new referee arrived, and after a quick Rocket Launcher on Eaton, the Fantastics thought they’d left with the gold. The original referee recovered, however, disqualifying Fulton for putting hands on him, and capping an excellent tag match with a controversial finish.
