20 Most Cringe-Worthy Gimmicks In WCW History

5. That 70s Guy/The Fat Chick Thrilla

Mike Awesome was a fearsome and agile big man with immense talent. He was a terror in the ring and his wars with Masato Tanaka were the stuff of legendary brutality. Awesome was a killer between the ropes and an asset to any company he worked for. Although never a strong promo, it shouldn€™t be hard to book a guy like that. Just put him in there and let him hurt people. So of course that€™s not what WCW did at all. The powers that be had this massive man fluff up his hair until he looked like one of the original Charlie€™s Angels and throw on some leisure suits and call him That 70s Guy. He was given his own bus, although nothing like the Lex Express. No, he came to arenas in a Partridge Family school bus. In a complete shocker, That 70s Guy was a dud with fans so WCW went back to their apparently bottomless creative well and dubbed him The Fat Chick Thrilla. This time his gimmick was a ladies man who had an affinity for that fine thickness. Inexplicably, poking fun at a portion of your fan base somehow doesn€™t lead to money and Awesome never really went anywhere. It€™s a shame because he could and should have been a top talent for WCW.
