20 Dumbest Gimmick Matches In WCW History

14. Carson City Silver Dollar Match

It was early 1996, and the blood feud between white-hot superstars JOHN TENTA and BIG BUBBA ROGERS had gotten so out of hand that they decided to square off in the legendary Carson City Silver Dollar Match. What's that? You've not heard of the legendary Carson City Silver Dollar Match? That's when there's a sock filled with loose change suspended above the ring on a pole, and you have to shimmy up, grab it, and whack your opponent with it to win.

Yes, it's a variation on the always-disappointing pro-wres standard, the item-on-a-pole match. This particular version was especially goofy, first because the pole was comically tall, and second because the item the wrestlers were trying to retrieve was a sock filled with coins. Finally, a match that combines the excitement of grown men shimmying up a pole for minutes at a time with the additional excitement of loose change!

Defining Moment: Both Big Bubba and John Tenta being too fat to climb the entirety of the absurdly tall pole, forcing Jimmy Hart to do it instead.
