20 ECW Easter Eggs, References And In-Jokes You Never Noticed
8. Paul Heyman's "Personal Security" Angle Looks Awfully Familiar
In the resurrected WWE ECW promotion, Paul Heyman's July 2006 heel turn as he sided with "WWE ECW" Champion The Big Show involved Heyman being flanked by two security guards with motorcycle helmets and riot gear. Similarly, in ECW in 1996, then ECW World Heavyweight Champion Shane Douglas was similarly flanked by motorcycle helmet wearing security guards for awhile, leading up to then Triple Threat member Brian Lee (believed to be Rick Rude under the helmet) turning on Douglas at ECW's Barely Legal PPV and being removed from the Triple Threat. While Heyman's security guards never revealed themselves, the idea that new talents to the promotion would be revealed in such a manner is an ECW idea that is quite old.
