20 Greatest Losing Performances At WrestleMania

12. Triple H vs. John Cena €“ WrestleMania 22

One year after winning his first WWE Championship at WrestleMania 21, John Cena was on top of the world. It was clear that he was going to be the face of the WWE going forward. The one guy who stood in his way was Attitude Era holdover Triple H. The idea behind this match was to legitimize Cena by giving him a high profile WrestleMania win over a guy who had been one of WWE€™s top Superstars for the last several years. In the buildup, it was Polished Wrestler (Triple H) vs. Hype (Cena). When the bell rang, Triple H showed Cena exactly why he was referred to as the €œCerebral Assassin.€ He had an answer for much of Cena€™s offense, but learned the hard way that the young buck was on his level. Hunter tapped out to the STF in the center of the ring, but he won the Chicago crowd over with his performance to the point that it warranted a babyface run shortly thereafter.
