20 Late 90's WCW Stars You Totally Don't Remember

20. Asya

The main premise behind Aysa in World Championship Wrestling was to mimic what the WWF had achieved with Chyna. It was really as simple as that, the woman was there to be WCW's own version of Joanie Laurer, albeit one without quite as much fanfare or success. Incredibly, there was another little interesting tidbit to the character's name. Cristi Wolf, the woman behind the gimmick, was called Aysa because the continent of Asia as a whole is bigger than China. WCW used the name in reference to the WWF character, and to claim Aysa was superior to Chyna. Obviously, this was utterly ridiculous - people could say what they wanted about Chyna, but she earned a reputation and had excellent presence. On the other hand, WCW just looked silly by aping the character. Asya didn't have a lot of success in WCW, despite being aligned with the likes of Ric Flair, Shane Douglas and others. Typically for the company, they didn't really have many plans for her after introducing the gimmick. Before leaving the promotion in August, 2000, she worked alongside her real-life husband, Dale 'Demon' Torborg.
