20 Major WrestleMania Matches We Didn't Get

5. Chris Jericho Vs. Mickey Rourke (WrestleMania 25)

In 2008's The Wrestler, Mickey Rourke killed it as a hard-luck veteran grappler unable to let go of the last vestiges of the spotlight. The critically-acclaimed performance drew WWE's attention, and Rourke was to bring his Randy "The Ram" Robinson skills to life against cantankerous Jericho. Considering the acting chops of both men in not-so-different fields, the story held much promise. Rourke threw out the kayfabed challenge during an interview at the SAG Awards in late-January 2009, several weeks before the planned match announcement. As a result, Rourke's handlers talked him out of taking the match, fearing it would hurt his chances at an Oscar for Best Actor. Rourke pulled out of the high-profile encounter, but did get to deck Jericho following Jericho's substitute match at the big event.
