20 Mind-Blowing Facts About WCW
11. Warrior Was Brought In Solely So Hogan Could Even The Score
By 1998, WCW were already starting to run out of big babyface characters who could feasibly run off the nWo. Sting had been cut off at the knee by his tainted victory over Hollywood Hogan at Starrcade the previous year, and not even a rematch at Superbrawl in February could help ease the disappointment fans felt in the immediate aftermath of the December match up.
Thus, Warrior was chosen as the man who would be brought in as Hogan's next big challenger. In hindsight, the hiring didn't really work, but WCW weren't to know that at the time, there was a market for another big match between Hogan and Warrior on Pay-Per-View, even in 1998.
Unfortunately, Warrior and Hogan were 8 years older than they had been at WrestleMania VI back in the glory days of the WWF, and their match at Halloween Havoc was miserable. Worse yet, it seemed that Warrior was only really brought into the mix so that Hogan could get a revenge victory over him for doing the job at the Toronto SkyDome years before.
Fans were initially enthused by the thought of seeing both men lock horns again, popping big for everything Warrior said during his first appearance on Nitro, but that quickly turned to apathy when bogus skits such as the infamous magical mirror segment were wheeled out.
