Controversy: Constant rumors that Hulk Hogan was "afraid" to face Bret Hart You can call Hulk Hogan a million different things, but "great technical wrestler" isn't one of them. That's fine. He didn't have to be one to make his millions and millions of dollars. However, everyone knew that he could be made to look bad when it the ring with a solid technician. Bret Hart was probably the best technician in the world of wrestling at the time. With both Hogan and Hart at the top of the WWF, they had to square off at some point, didn't they? Imagine the money it could make, just like the Hogan VS Ultimate Warrior match three years prior. Fans never did get to see that Hogan VS Hart match in the WWF. For years, there were rumors that Hogan didn't want to face Hart. Some of the rumors state that Hogan was afraid of Hart making him look foolish in the ring, while other rumors said that Hogan simply didn't see Bret as a "top level" guy and that there was no money to be made in having a match with someone who was so "beneath" him. The main event of WrestleMania 9 was supposed to be Bret defending the WWF Title against Yokozuna. After the match was over, and Yokozuna had won the title, Hogan came out to complain about Mr. Fuji's interference in the match. This led to Fuji and Yoko challenging Hulk to a match right then and there. Less than 30 seconds later, Hogan was the new WWF Champion, and he did it by avoiding Bret completely. It goes a long way towards making those rumors look to be the truth.
