Controversy: Vince McMahon botching what could have been one of the biggest angles of all-time because of his own ego Through the years, many have said that even an idiot could have successfully booked the WCW "Invasion" angle. You have a super loaded WWF roster, and the newly-acquired WCW roster, after years of "Who would win if Wrestler A faced Wrestler B" discussions and arguments from wrestling fans that never thought they would see those people against each other. In the first few months of the story, a lot of WCW's side consisted of midcarders and people who were even lower on the food chain than that. The main event of this pay-per-view was Team WWF (Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, The Undertaker, Kane and Chris Jericho) taking on Team Alliance (Booker T, Diamond Dallas Page, Rhyno and The Dudley Boyz). The Alliance side already had three people who were wrestling in the WWF before the angle had even started, which isn't exactly what people had envisioned for this type of thing. The match ended after Austin turned heel (technically, remained heel, as he never officially turned face) and helped the Alliance win. It was groan-inducing for fans who never wanted Austin to be a heel in the first place, and for those who saw yet another "WWF Guy" joining the Alliance, instead of more big name "WCW Guys" coming in. They saw it as Vince's ego not allowing for WCW to come in and look strong against his company, so he placed many of his own workers on their side as kind of a "the only way you look good is when my guys are helping you" decision.
