Due to Hogan's heel turn, drastic changes needed to be made to his character to differentiate it from the bright colored, positive Hulk Hogan of year's past. The New World Order's theme song played a major role in that. A modified guitar riff on loop wouldn't normally do wonders for a single character, let alone a massive group, but it worked for the New World Order. Along with the aforementioned riff, group catchphrases were also added, something in which became commonplace among wrestling themes years later. The theme, created by Frank Shelley, was different than anything else in which WCW was releasing for it's talent at the time. Despite it being simple in nature, it didn't have the generic, stock music feel of so many themes of it's time period, setting it apart from the rest.
