20 Most RANDOM WWE Royal Rumble Entrants

Somewhere, someplace, someone will fire up 2004's Royal Rumble and yell: "Hey! That's Brodus Clay's entrance music!" when Ernest Miller entered at #18. 'The Cat' had actually been in WWE for a few years by that point, but he'd almost exclusively appeared as an announcer on 'C' level programming like Velocity. That was hardly the most pulsating gig in the world.

WWE wanted to see if the former WCW man had anything left in-ring during the Rumble though, so they let him roll in with his manager Lamont for a little James Brown-style dancing action. The fact a no-nonsense worker like Chris Benoit was in the ring at the same time wasn't lost on anybody. Benoit got to his feet and stopped the dance off. He then immediately ordered the truck to show footage of Rikishi and Too Cool from 2000, and admonished Miller for playing copy-Cat.

Not really, obviously.

Ol' Ernest screamed the kind of goofy gimmick Vince McMahon would've loved at the time, but the then-boss somehow found it in his heart to ignore gimmick-based temptation and plough ahead with the strait-laced Benoit push instead. Miller would go on to work a short feud with Tajiri before leaving the promotion in February having failed to catch on with the audience.

Later, Ernest called out WWE's writers for struggling to find a role for someone with his range. Sorry, sir, but there were only so many dancing spots people could be expected to sit through. Going from Velocity commentator to Rumble entrant was some switch though.
