20 Unbelievable Moments 2016

This one is more like a 2-for-1 deal surrounding the Universal Championship.

The first unbelievable moment came when WWE decided to go back to having two world championships in 2016.

After unifying the WWE Championship and World Heavyweight Championships at TLC 2013, WWE would present one world title, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, as the primary title for the promotion through August of this year. It was then the company unveiled the new Universal Championship just prior to the SummerSlam title match between Finn Bálor and Seth Rollins.

After being ridiculed for the decision to name the title on behalf of the vomit-inducing, over-the-top branding term "WWE Universe", the promotion followed up one bad decision with another. At SummerSlam, the title was revealed as an all-red belt identical to the WWE Championship in nearly every way except the color.

The second most unbelievable moment surrounding the new title came when the inaugural champion was crowned.

After debuting on Raw in July, Finn Bálor went on to defeat Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins inside of one month en route to becoming the first-ever WWE Universal Champion. While fans expected big things from Finn, few expected The Demon King to burst on the scene and make the impact that he did.
