20 Must-See WCW Matches

17. Ric Flair (c) Vs. Hollywood Hogan Vs. Sting Vs. DDP – Spring Stampede ‘99 (WCW Championship)

When it comes to star-studded main events, they don’t come much bigger than Spring Stampede ’99.

A colossal card in its own right – also featuring the long-awaited rematch between Goldberg and streak-ending rival, Kevin Nash – the main event had enough heavyweight star power to fill an entire Hall of Fame wing.

Defending champion, Ric Flair, would put the World Title (his 14th of the official 16) on the line against the challenge of WCW icon, Sting; industry legend, Hogan; and rising star, Diamond Dallas Page. What’s more, WCW brass threw in the returning (and absolutely jacked) Randy “Macho Man” Savage as special guest referee, looking more macho than ever after being off TV for almost a year recovering from knee surgery.

The participants alone make the contest feel like fantasy booking, and with Randy Savage as guest referee, the bout seems more like a video game match than an actual PPV main event – such was the quality of wrestling during the Monday Night Wars.

Nevertheless, happen it did, and the four-way fantasy match-up is a fantastic snapshot of wrestling in 1999; ending in fitting fashion with a deserving winner holding the Big Gold high.
