20 Obscure WWE Tag Teams You Totally Don't Remember

8. The Highlanders

Robbie and Rory McAllister were a set of burly brawlers from Oban, Scotland, who started wrestling together in 2001, and primarily worked on the Canadian indie scene. WWE took notice of them in 2005, and after a year-long stint in the OVW farm system, The Highlanders made it to Monday Night Raw.

The Highlanders were every lazy Scottish stereotype boiled down into a one-note wrestling gimmick. Portrayed as a couple of country bumpkins torn from Scotland and thrust into the heart of America's big cities (because Scotland doesn't have cities, apparently), the duo looked like fish out of water in more ways than one. They were never particularly compelling in the ring, and while Robbie & Rory occasionally wrestled for the Tag Team Championships, they were relegated to Heat shortly after debuting.

The Highlanders' most notable act came in March 2008, when Robbie was shown in attendance at an episode of TNA Impact. WWE immediately called Robbie and ordered him to leave, but the damage was done: The Highlanders were pulled from their planned WrestleMania appearance, and lost a $5,000 paycheck because of it.

The Highlanders were released a few months later, which probably isn't a coincidence. Presumably, they're currently cooped-up in a croft in the Scottish Highlands, eating haggis and shortbread, and reminiscing on the good old days over a bottle of Irn Bru.
