20 Shocking WWE Plans You Won’t Believe
7. Fake Kane: Not Actually Fake
WWE love a bad imposter angle, though 2006’s “Fake Kane” story was a little different to WWE’s attempts at recreating Diesel and Razor Ramon in the 90s. Kane spent several weeks haunted by voices from his tortured past, and it came to a head on a May episode of Raw. An imposter Kane (wearing Kane’s old mask and ring attire) Chokeslammed him during a match with Shelton Benjamin, and the feud began.
Kane and Fake Kane would continue duking it out over the coming weeks, but the story quickly faded from prominence. In June, Kane threw his Fake mate out of the arena before ripping off his mask and stating “I believe that this is mine.” Kane would then take a few months off from WWE television, and the angle was never heard from again.
Drew Hankinson (better known as Luke Gallows) played the role, but the original conclusion was scrapped. “Fake Kane” was supposed to be revealed as Kane himself, with the story being that this imposter was the real Kane all along, and that Glenn Jacobs’ Kane had stolen his identity and kept him imprisoned for a decade.
The move was designed to allow Jacobs to retire and WWE to retain the Kane character, but Jacobs reconsidered, and the idea was scrapped.
